Reizen is a great favourite of mine. It is strange to my ears to hear this sung in Russian, although it is a fine performance .

I never studied with her directly. (I took lessons from her colleague, the late Bill Duvall, brother of the famous actor.) But I participated in her Opera Theater workshops in the late 70s. She didn't sing much then, so listening to her here has been astounding. I never understood the extent of her talent. Completely world class.

Without doubt the greatest bass I've ever heard. That deep " black" sound yet such beauty of tone perfect for the great Russian roles but I'd love to hear his Phillip of Spain! His greatest performance? It must be the Viking Guest the final climax being terrifying. John Loveridge

Real Russian genius in these scenes and opera films. Cinema, acting, singing, sets - all perfection. These artifacts are priceless windows into the past. I marvel at the heights so many gifted artists reached under a totalitarian, repressive government.

This is one of my favorite Schubert songs. Reizen’s singing is masterful here. What a wonderful record! Makarov is an excellent accompanist too.

A much estimated operatic singer. A real bass , as well.

She was an amazing person, too. I studied voice with her when I attended the University of Wisconsin in 1972-3. I wasn't a voice major, so she took me on privately and charged me $2 a lesson at her home. I was very naive, and had no idea how unusual that was. She taught my husband, too, for free. She knew we were poor young students and took us on out of the goodness of her heart.

Magnificent performance ! This is such a fine film. Why is it not so readily available?

This is marvelous on so many levels. A great artist singing late in his life but this is a splendid performance not a mere curio. I’ve watched it over and over and it moves and thrills me.
